Is GABA good for sleep. I have terrible racing thoughts which affect my sleep, will GABA supplementation help with that? I appreciate any insights.

don't think GABA crosses the blood brain barrier, phenylanine is a GABA precurser that does cross. It didn't have much luck with it. I had good luck with Shiff melitonin plus theanine. Helps me fall asleep but doesn't affect the quality of my sleep.

Anyone have luck with zinc for ADHD/anxiety?

Someone posted a very interesting link that seperated ADHD into types and zinc deficienties were listed as a common occurence in ADD. It seemed to align with the theory of leaky gut syndrom. Does anyone believe in this leaky gut idea? ADD/ADHD autisim are common in permature births and the food coloring and perservatives have some role. I've always had gut problems and was premature. Has anyone ever heard of this leaky gut idea?

I find large doses of niacinamide and taurine to be sedating/calming (calming for me...might be sedating for you). Throw in some melatonin or 5-htp or some valerian, and you might have yourself a combo.

It's possible that GABA will help with racing thoughts. I have found great benefit from GABA 750mg per day for depression and anxiety. I take it everyday, and I feel much better. As far as sleep, I think GABA can help somewhat, but I think you need in addition other supplements for better sleep, such as melatonin, calcium and magnesium, selenium and others. For some reason I find that 100mcg of selenium-yeast helps with better sleep, probably because it is an antioxidant. You might also try 400IU of natural vitamin E at bedtime as well. I think GABA is a great supplement depending on what you are taking it for. Dosage is also important. I never found great relief from 500mg, but 750mg works very well for me. Source Naturals makes a 750mg capsule and tablet. This is what I use. Good luck!

Magnesium citrate works well for me. Also progressive muscle relaxation. It's a simple technique which you'll find if you search for it on the web.
