If the pulp has died, Deneb, you at least need to go on a course of antibiotics. That will help with the discomfort. And call the endodontist's office and ask what they recommend you do until your appointment to manage the pain (and get put on their cancellation list - if they get an opening before your appointment, they call you).
You're responsible for your body and taking care of it. The dentists are there to care for your mouth - ask them to do just that!
ClearSkies, who has had 43 years' worth of dental problems and survived to tell about them. But I won't because they are pretty gross.
Oh, and I worked in a dental laboratory and then for a dentist in private practice, for a total of 3 years. I not only kind of know what you are going through, I am reliving it with you!! Shudder. Trust us, you can feel better without having to contemplate the dark side.
