I wasn't a superstitious person but now I might become one. I broke a very large mirror moving into my apartment 2.5 years ago and things haven't been the same since. My co-workers joke about my constant bad luck. A friend of mine even bought me a lucky bamboo plant for my b-day to try to help me. Ironically enough, my cat knocked it off the shelf that night. It's in one piece but I took it as a sign.
Car trouble, man troubles, appliances breaking, favorites clothes being eaten by the clothes washer, etc. It just never stops! Oh yes, how can I forget the most recent incident - I just broke a huge chunk of tooth off this morning on a bagel. Maybe I would be better if I just followed my instinct and stayed in bed every day.
I've heard the theory that you make your own luck but the things that are happening just don't make sense. Perhaps someone placed a spell or curse on me. Sounds silly but I have no other explanation.
Do any of you have any ideas? I'm willing to try anything. I'm at the point of desperation.
(Sorry if it always seems like I post when things are horrible. I promise to post some happiness soon.)

I'm sorry about all the bad stuff that's been happening to you. I am a true believer in that your frame of mind really does affect what goes on in your life, though. For instance, my brother and sis-in-law's marriage is in horrible trouble, they are both stressed out. My sis-in-law got into an otherwise easily preventible car accident, and my brother's had horrible luck, like his phone cord being cut at his new home, his breaking a window he was trying to open, it raining the entire weekend he went to the beach to get away from it all....
And it's happened to me, too, when depressed, it seems like everything goes down hill. The only way I seem to get out of it is to *will* myself out of it. Concentrate on the good things that happen and try to laugh off the rest. If you are focusing on your string of bad luck, it's going to only highlight the things in your life that go wrong. If you concentrate on the fun/cool/good/happy things, you'll start seeing a newer, better pattern.
Good luck, literally. :-)

Thanks Susan! I've really been trying to focus on the good but every time something bad happens it sends me right into the downward spiral. The meds have been helping me shrug off the little things that used to bother me but the bigger things are a challenge.
I don't suppose you have a good luck spell laying around... ;-)

Wildflower,
You jest, but that solution does have serious potential. Sometimes just "trying" to be positive isn't enough. Create (or look up) a ritual for banishing good luck (or go get a psychic healing. Who knows -- there might *be* an energy level component here). If you live in certain cities (SF Bay Area, Boulder, Chicago) there are nights when you can get one for free.
I.e. even if there is no real "energy" component, participating in the ritual will help reset your consciousness and "lift" the curse. Good luck!Michael

Thanks Michael - I was only half kidding regarding spells. I'm very open to other studies and religions when it comes to these things. I do have some books that offer "solutions" but I was hoping that someone may have alreay tried something that works for sure. I believe that dabbling in things such as rituals/spells can have serious consequences unless you really know what you're doing.
And no, I don't live near San Fran or Chicago. :-(

Allow me to offer you one (it ties into the psychic healing as I learned this at those institutes I was referring to that do healings):
Sit down, close your eyes, and picture the base of your spine (first chakra, if you are familiar with such things) connect to the center of earth. Invite the energy causing the "bad luck" in your space to go down that connection (called a grounding cord). In fact, while you are at it invite any energy that is not your own to go on down the cord as well (foreign energy might be good for its owner but not for you).
Do this for a while until it feels right. Finally, picture an image of rose out in front of you, and have that rose attract any of the bad luck out of your space that did not go down the cord (picturing the rose as being "sticky" sometimes helps with this). Once the rose is full, blow it up. Repeat with another rose if this does not feel complete.
Finally, create a large "golden sun" over your head an invite *your* energy to come into that golden sun from wherever you left it (work, school, past, future, etc). And when it is full, bring it down into your space (replenishing you with your own energy, which now takes the place of the foreign energy you removed). To close out, bend over and touch the earth once and then open your eyes.
Hopefully this will help. It is good for other things that are plaguing your space as well -- not just "bad luck".

This sounds like exactly what was looking for. I'll try this later tonight when I get home and I'll keep you posted on the results.

I've heard it said that you make your own luck too. When I was doing a lot of lab work, I noticed that I tended to break glassware when I was in a bad mood. That made sense to me - not paying attention. But I dunno - I'm not sure state of mind explains your clothes getting wrecked in the washer.....
Do you also get some good luck to at least balance out the bad?

I'm sorry for your bad luck, but you have a great style of writing that made me chuckle.
I feel bad for 'laughing' at your bad luck, but it really reminds me of one of my friends who is the bad luck queen.

BTW, does anyone remember the "bad luck" song from Hee Haw? (or perhaps I should ask, does anyone remember Hee Haw who is willing to admit watching it <g>).
I have actually sung that to myself when I am really down or extremely frustrated. It is such a silly exaggeration that it actually has the effect of making me feel better.
"Gloom, despair, and agony -- oh me!"
"Deep dark depression -- excessive misery"
"If it weren't for bad luck -- I'd have no luck at all"
"Gloom, despair, and agony -- oh me!"

Ironically enough, I changed the page on my daily wine calendar and the title of the page is "Rotten Luck". I just had a good chuckle when I flipped the page. It's basically the story of how in the late 1600s the Hungarians were too busy fighting off the Turks to tend to their vineyards. After the battle, they found that the grapes were rotted on the vines. They made the wine anyway and found that that the small amount of concentrated liquid inside each grape tasted like honey and that's how one of the worlds best dessert wines was "invented".
Perhaps I'm not having bad luck. I may just be on the verge of a new creation. ;-)

>Hi....I greatly understand what you are saying. After two horrible tragedies within a year, I thought someone, or thing, or whatever, MUST have put a curse on me. So, recently I got into something I never really believed in before. That is Tarot cards. I am reading through a book on how to use them, and still have to go out and buy a good deck. But, I had a reading by someone who I *knew* was very experienced (not a fly-by-nighter) and they did a reading that almost shocked this usually very skeptical, semi-logical guy.
What I found it best, though, was for developing some insight into my concerns and problems, to 'navigate' a bit better and make life a bit richer. It didn't help with immediate "yes or no" problems, but I liken it even in some ways to therapy. I'd highly recommend doing some reading on the subject, and see if you can find an "expert" in the area you live in and have a reading done. The more you know about the subject, and in particular the cards and what they *really* mean, might bring some needed new perspective to your life. "Lover's Vs. The Fool"...endlessly rocking..:-)
Best,
Jay
