I've heard it said that you make your own luck too. When I was doing a lot of lab work, I noticed that I tended to break glassware when I was in a bad mood. That made sense to me - not paying attention. But I dunno - I'm not sure state of mind explains your clothes getting wrecked in the washer.....

Do you also get some good luck to at least balance out the bad?

My co-workers joke about my constant bad luck. A friend of mine even bought me a lucky bamboo plant for my b-day to try to help me. Ironically enough, my cat knocked it off the shelf that night. It's in one piece but I took it as a sign.
