Plus your advisor ought to sound brilliant-- s/he's had the benefit of reading the works ofmany profound and important thinkers-- so don't assume that everything s/he said, which was brilliant, was something she thought of.

People who are advanced beyond us in their scholarship and knowledge often seem incredibly smart and clever. Soon, you'll seem that way to people a few years behind you in grad school.

Having your thesis be a jumble after talking to your advisor is a privilege that only grad students can appreciate. My advisor never talked to me, and my thesis was something I did entirely on my own-- sounds good, since I never had to incorporate the unwieldy insights of various, possibly disagreeing, people. But not really. I would have loved some feedback, and help shaping and developing the argument-- or even refining and reconceptualizing it, at early stages. It's frustrating, but ultimately exhilarating to get that sort of response--

After a while, I'm sure you'll make something even better out of what you were getting at.
