This is the story. I was walking up to the top of a mountain to watch the bird migration. We were making good time. I took my eyes from the rocky, root infested, uneven path and when I opened my eyes I was looking at the mud real close. I thought gosh I've never had such a close up look at this earth. Then the pain hit....I never knew I could swear like that...
I couldn't swear enough. I had on a new powder blue jacket. I was rolling in the mud all over that pretty thing. My ankle was screaming with sharp pain. Then I realized I had broken my glasses, torn my tights, ripped my upper lip and hurt my knee.
I swore for quite a while. I can't repeat the words as I would be banished for weeks and weeks... All the swearing didn't do me a lick of good.
What took 10 minutes of walking into the woods took one hour of hobbling out. People passed us and didn't even ask what had happened or if they could help. It was obvious that my upper lip was bleeding.
That shocked me.I went to the Doc today and he said the end of my bone broke off. So he fitted me with a boot and booted me out the door. come back in 5 weeks....we'll see.
Thanks you all for being so caring.
I am humbled by the way people on the mountain were so oblivious...Of course I am wondering what is the lesson in this injury.
Doing simple things, getting up in the middle of the night....
So incredibly difficult.
But I love my boot, it's in stylish grayish-green.
I told the Doc I wanted to wear it while I go hiking....ps (Atticus, I bet I could trip on uneven pavement)
