Therapist Orientation? CBT or psychodynamic?

Posted by mattdds on December 26, 2003, at 1:52:24

I'm curious as to how many people that post here are receiving psychodynamic or Freudian as opposed to CBT type therapy. I'm also curious as to the reasons why.

I would like to take a poll: please state whether your conviction is with the psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, or other type of psychotherapy. Also, if you're interested in this thread, please state your reasoning behind sticking with that particular type of therapist.

It seems the overwhelming majority (90%, as a guess?) are receiving psychodynamic type therapy. I say this because, usually talk of CBT is harshly critical on this board. I'm just curious as to why.

The babble here seems to be more about couch-type therapy, with concerns of unconscious sexual desires or transference issues.

Are there any behaviorists out there? I like the idea of a psychological board, but I feel greatly outnumbered, which is why I tend to avoid this board.

Just an observation I've made, correct me if my perceptions are inaccurate.

Maybe a further branching out of the board is needed, owing to the radically different styles of the two therapies. CBT-babble? I'd love to discuss this in a "civil" environment.

Best,

Matt
