Why does death have to ruin life like so...

Just back from my grandfather's funeral.
It made me realize the inevitable fatality of life. All those I know and love, either I will see them die or they will see me die. There is no escape from the pain.
It makes me want to be alone ... to be erased from everybody's memory.
How does one carry on living with the knowledge of what awaits us all?
