April 8, 2004 -- Behavioral problems in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) frequently don't resolve with Ritalin, the medication most commonly used to treat the condition. But new research suggests that combining a daily zinc supplement with Ritalin can boost the efficacy of Ritalin.
A new study shows that children who took 55 mg of zinc daily along with their Ritalin had better symptom control than children given Ritalin and a dummy pill, says Shahin Akhondzadeh, PhD, associate professor of clinical neuropharmacology at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran.

The best form of Zinc to take-accordingly to world nutritional authority Dr Michael Colgan-is Zinc picolinate, which is 10x better absorbed than Zinc oxide. I have found this form in Twinlab Zinc caps, 30mg a cap, which i take 2x day. I have found myself using less Ritalin, Scripted 70mgs day, not sure if this why but it cannot hurt and helps with immunity and appetite too.Still wanting to try Dextroamphetamine as this often appears to be rated higher in many ADD forums, and also acts on Serotonin i believe, as well as having nurotransmitter output function as well as reuptake function, which is what Ritalin does-for Dopamine and Norpinephrine. I have been referred to a specialist so we'll see.
Cheers
