I think what Larry is saying is that with this product you would be taking one very expensive capsule--that does nothing different from taking three cheap Walgreens capsules.
Most studies on using fisho oil for mood disorders or even plain health use more than 1000mg. Also remember--doctors are not schooled well on average in nutrition; and most in my experience a)knew a lot less about nutritional supplements than I did; b)were very negative about taking more than the official RDA despite the evidence out there that the RDAs are not enough; and c) most still even balk and grudgingly follow the mandate to recommend a small, basic vitamin/mineral supplement to their patients.
But it sounds like your doc is more open and schooed, kudos to him/her.
I always go to docs hoping for guidance in supplements, and am always more than a little disappointed. Usually they ask me to stop taking them altogether. Med schools simply do not follow research on supplements and do not requirte this from their students. Amazing and sad.
By the waym, you originally asked about capsules vs liquid fish oil. Some prefer liquid simply because tablespoon for tablespoon, it is more concentrated than what they can fit in a capsule--you need to take several capsules to equal the amount in a tablespoon. And it is cheaper. Having said that, I am much more willing to take 5 capsules than gag on liquid fish oil, and have fish burps all day....
