While I, too, was offended by much of what Holdan posted here -- both by language and by content -- I don't agree that Willyee shouldn't have been blocked. (Although I won't disclose my opinion on blocking Holdan, in fear of getting my own PBC...)
Regardless of Holdan's intentions or identity or anything else, Willyee has been here long enough to know the rules, and one of the rules is that one has to remain civil, even when provoked. Willyee was obviously feeling quite provoked, and I can certainly understand and empathize with that -- but the fact remains that the civility guidelines say that we cannot post anything that might make another feel accused or put down. What's more, GG did give a PBC warning before imposing the block. Willyee had the choice to ignore that, and did so.
I was blocked for a week recently, after posting something about another poster -- something that I felt provoked into posting -- and much as I hated being blocked, I also knew that I had brought it on by the choices I had made. I hope that I've learned my lesson, and that it never happens to me again. But I appreciate the civility guidelines, which help me learn to be civil to others even when I really, really don't want to be. ;-D That's not a bad skill to have.
Finally, GG is acting as Deputy. Even if I didn't agree with her choice to block a poster, I would still support her, because she is performing a duty that helps us all. Rather than giving her Rat's Week, I would prefer to show my appreciation of her taking on this role by respecting the decisions she makes.
I'm sorry that this whole thing has happened. I'm very sorry that a regular poster who has contributed a great deal to this site was blocked because of it. But I respectfully disagree regarding reversing the block.
