I would try lithium first. If it works, get stabilized and eventually see if you can lower the dose and still feel good/stable. Lithium is a great little element. There are many potential benefits of taking it aside from mood stabilization.

If you go above 600mgs, you will be getting blood checked every 3 months I think.
