I did some research a while back and discovered that yes, the chemicals released during panic do have a distinctive odor. You really can smell fear. I'd noticed that my clothing after a panic attack really reeked, and I just couldn't leave them in the hamper without washing them.
But they didn't really talk about how it feels. I've often said that it feels like my skin is burning. But since developing a liking for peppermint soap, I notice the feeling isn't dissimilar. Anxiety sweat seems to me to feel like peppermint soap. There's a burning or tingling to it. I also know that after a particularly stressful time at work my body really reacts badly. As a diabetic, I get irritations under my arms or in other places like that. They get really really bad during stressful times. Almost like my sweat is an irritant to my skin.
Am I nuts or is it possible that the chemicals involved do that as well? Could that be part of what a cold sweat means? Because the tingling or burning does have a cold feel to it. Again, like peppermint.
Or I could be totally nuts.
