Good for you. If your pdoc doesn't listen to you that's a problem.
I've made the decision to stop or taper down many medications myself. When my doctor has asked why, I've either said it made me more 'whatever' (ex. dizzy, memory problems)...he usually understood why I did it. Some pdocs want complete control over everything you do. I have been seeing my pdoc for so long now he trusts my judgement most times. I think if we had a real disagreement about this I would have to change doctors.My pdoc knows that I may know more about some meds than him and he appeciates my feedback. If he suggests a med I'm totally against I will tell him so. Then he may ask what I think would work. I usually have game plan for next steps to try.
But right now I'm not in the depths of being depressed so that is an advantage in participating in your own treatment. When you are so depressed, you are at the mercy of your doctors, at least that is how I have always felt.
