depression from Klonopin - experiences?

Posted by lemon68 on September 29, 2004, at 21:39:30

My doc prescribed me Klonipin for sleep difficulties I experience from ADs ( currently switching over from Effxr. to Cymbalta - see prev. threads) and when Trazodone doesn't do the trick - which is increasingly frequent.

I have to start waking up much earlier as I'm starting a day job. I asked my doc for Ambien, which really worked in the past - he maintained that it was much more cost-effective to try Klonopin.

My question is - I have read in several threads about not only the severe withdrawal symptoms that can accompany cessation from a benzo trial, but also an insistance that Klonopin can actually cause or accentuate depression. Has anyone on this board experienced depression on Klonopin, and what were the circumstances?

This site, which is very informative, also points to the Klonopin = depression correlation - http://www.crazymeds.org/ - it's in the Benzo section. However, they do stipulate that it's likely with long term use if you're bi-polar, which is not my diagnosis....

Thanks
