> I recently added nortriptyline to 40 mg of celexa to help with IBS and to boost norepinephrine etc. I figured my target dose of the nt would be 25 mg, but I can hardly handle 10 mg. It makes me very sleepy, and when I try to up the dose I get a headache. It seems to be working well at 10 mg, but I'm so sleepy, and I've been taking it for a month. I almost want to try 5 mg, but that's such a pain because it only comes in capsules. Has anyone ever come across tablets. Does 5 or 10 mg seem like a ridicuously low dose? I know about the enzyme inhibition, but it still seems really low. Does nortriptyline increase blood levels of celexa (as well as vice versa)? Perhaps I should reduce celexa before I go down on nortriptyline? Would love to hear about anyone's experiences.

>Hi,
I recently started taking Nort for the same reason, Celexa & Nortriptyline don't interact AFAIK, the drugs to avoid are Prozac & Paxil. The enzyme that metabolises Nortriptyline is 2D6 & this is the one that has that varies the most from person to person. It would be very worth while for you to get a plasma level taken to see how well you metabolise it.
Cheers,
Paul.
