Hi...I've been on depakote for a couple weeks now (not sure how many, i lose track) I started at 500mg and then it was raised to 1000mg two weeks ago (I think). I haven't had any weight gain, no hair loss, and it's not really sedating at all. I found it did, at first, cause some agitation, but that subsided. I am on both Depakote and Gabapentin (1500mg). The Neurontin helps to calm me down, so I don't get so filled with rage and agitated, it also definately helped with social anxiety...
Anyway, side-effects are usually overstated (at least that's my experience).
