Anyone have a good shake/smoothie receipe?

Posted by Deneb on July 9, 2006, at 0:37:41

I want a basic recipe where I can add whatever fruit I want.

I want to incorporate milled flax seeds into the recipe.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I make one every day with Vega meal replacement powder (chocolate flavour, but it comes in natural flavour and berry flavour - lots of protein in it). Then I throw in a cup of rice milk, a cup of plain yogurt, some sliced almonds, a banana, about a cup of berries (strawberries or raspberries) and about a cup of frozen blueberries (to make it thick and smooth). Blend it all together and Voila - delicious and filling!!!

I've never had Orange Julius juice. I think I'll go try one. :-)

Thanks for the recipe. I'll check it out.

Your recipe sounds really good. I'm going to try it. I have lots of yogurt at home.

I tried to make a smoothie today, but it wasn't very good. There wasn't enough flavour. I used a small yogurt, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, some milk and 3 teaspoonfuls of ground flax. I should have used orange juice. What was I thinking? I drank it anyways, because it's super healthy. :-)

Rice milk? I've never heard of such a thing. I'm curious. Where do you get rice milk?

You can mix vanilla yogurt with just about any fruit for a smoothie. And you can always add protein powder to a shake. It taste okay as long as you don't use too much. I've never thought about the orange juice, I've got to try that.

I also get vanilla yogurt to dip fruit in like strawberries and cantalope. I got the idea from a fruit tray at the grocery store. Its also good to layer fruit and yogurt and sprinkle granola on top. Yum! That's a McDonald's rip off.

My other favorite is this sugar free, fat free ice cream I've discovered - so good blended with bannana's and a little skim milk. Yum!!! Now I have to go eat some ice cream (I don't have fruit and yogurt right now).

Not sure if you'd like this or not, but I sometimes add a small amount of soft tofu in with smoothies (just with any regular recipe). I dont eat a lot of tofu, but if you only use a little, you wont taste it and it's good for you. Just a suggestion. :)

Smoothies are awesome...i lived on them for about a week after having my wisdom teeth out...

I kinda just throw random things in a blender, but there is a method to the madness.

I usually use either frozen yogurt/ice cream (or sorbet, icemilk, etc) or ice cubes to make it frosty.

You can use regular yogurt too, and use frozen friut.

Fo example:

Strawberry-banana smoothie:

1 banana
frozen strawberries
vanilla yogurt

if it's not thick or frosty enough, add a few ice cubes and blend :)

It's fun to experiment with flavors. I like tropical smoothies. Last night I made one with vanilla yogurt, frozen mango chunks, a little bit of frozen strawberries, a dash of pinapple-coconut nectar (like for pina-coladas...) and a little sugar. Actually, i ended up freezing it to make frozen yogurt!

chocolate-banana smoothies are good too :)

It is with the soy milk and it is in similar packaging (giant juice box), in most grocery stores.
