conscious reality shifting?Help?!

Posted by muffled on October 4, 2005, at 23:30:02

Can anyone understand about this thing? I could sit at my window and look out at the world and quite consciously change my 'view'. One view the world is real, clear, makes sense. Then I can change something in myself somehow and the world looks so different. More scarey, muffled, confusing, not real. It looks different visually and feels different in my emotions.
Anybody else know about this?

In Nov 04 I told my dad that I wasn't celebrating Christmas that year. What I didn't tell him was that I was taking steps to cut him out of my life while I worked on therapy.

Since then, I have not contacted him once, I've just run into him a couple of times at unavoidable family get togethers.

However, what had really upset me was that he had never contacted me. I took that as meaning that he didn't care about me or that he was too wrapped up in himself to notice I was missing, or a heap of other negative things. The whole thing really hurt me a lot.

One day my T said that perhaps due to my dad's own issues, he couldn't decide on a course of action (eg confront me, talk to me, cut me off, whatever) and therefore did nothing in indecision.

I scoffed at this until I could see that I was actually doing the exactly the same thing with a girl I knew (I didn't know what to do about her, so I did nothing) and this insight threw a whole new light on it all.

I guess I'm still a bit upset that my dad isn't mature enough to have tackled his own issues and address problems with his children, but seeing it all in the new light has eased my hurt quite a bit.

This example was obviously centred around my dad and my self worth, but the same sort of effect can occur with insights you gain in any part of your life.

That's all conscious reality shifting is - an insight. Suddenly you can see something in a different way and it changes the way you feel and think about it.

Yeah. It happens to me without any effort on my part which is scary.

But I've also learned to do it consciously, and that makes me feel more control. Actually I can have a bit of fun with it once I know that it's me who's doing it and that I know how to switch back and forth.

Sigh.

I'm way too good at dissociation already, yet I keep practicing those "muscles" and making them even stronger.

I haven't done it in a long time.At least not consciously. I dunno what phase I'm in? I was going to try and do it but I think something.........I don't know, I got scared and stopped before I knew what it was. So its not good to phase shift? It didn't used to scare me too bad. I dunno whats going on. I'm supposed to let God lead me along and not do what I don't want to do. I'm kinda scared all right. Thanks Dinah. I goto keep telling myself, this too shall pass.

Thx. (nm) » littleone

ya, i do it frequently, mostly it happens without my causing it, though sometimes i have control. it feels like i'm in third person and am viewing life, earth, humans, everyday activities like some cosmic entity and its functions.
it's weird but i agree with Dinah in that it can be a little fun especially as long as you know what's going on.

Hi Muffled,

I do this sometimes consciously, sometimes not. I see a lot of different views outside myself, sometimes I can consciously change it if I try, esp. good to bad, not as easily bad to good. When things look bleak and dark and scary, it's hard to chase the scary things away, and I get caught up in bad visuals.

I also have a lot of different views inside myself depending on how I feel, and what's going on in my life and around me. The views inside me change how things look outside myself. When it's situational and negative and I don't control it, it's more scary to me.

Actually I thought this was normal, I didn't think ppl couldn't do this.

I think peoples views change, but not as dramatically. I don't think Joe Average is aware of it. Its like your reality can completely shift and change, and you can be conscious of it. its like (for me anyways) two completely different worlds. I could live in either. Both are real. Its weird and hard to explain. I want to live in the nicer one, but I'm starting to think maybe I'm stuck in the not nice one. I need to learn to shift again so I can get back to the better one I think.??? I'm alittle afraid to shift, I haven't done it in a long time. It occurs to me I should try it stoned, it might be easier. Hmmm.

I have actually been using the Rx drug method to avoid the not so nice views, which seem all too common these days, and it's easier to just zone out, and opt out. Sad, but what can I say?

Oh, I don't do it very often, maybe once or twice a month. I wouldn't do it unless my husband was home because of the kids, but sometimes because of the migraines which usually last for about 6 days, the inability to sleep for nights on end, and the chaos I just need to shut down, not often, but lately it's an option.
