Have I really be gone so long?

Posted by mightymouse on July 10, 2003, at 18:52:29

Hmmm, when I tried to post, I didnt exist, so this is a test, with a new name, I used to post under [susan C].....

Just to all let you know I have been doing fine since adding verapamil (calcium channel blocker) to Depakote, over the last 9 months. That's not to say I havent had my moments or days, but the depression is about gone, the mania is limited and the crashes afterwards are only a day, so far. So, if you all are wondering about me, I am lurking, reading, drawing, knitting and swimming.

Hi Mouse welcome back!

Hi mouse, what are you knitting? I love knitting but quit due to carpal tunnel type symptoms. Well actually what I really enjoy is reading knitting books and thinking about all the stuff I can knit, the actual follow thru is a little less enjoyable.

Hi, I saw a "sample" sweater in Seattle's Weaving Works done in a stitch I had never seen before. Of course, I had to have the pattern for the sweater thinking it was something complicated. So I put my name in and got a Jo Sharp Hand Knitting Collection Book Number One for "Tundra" on page 18. The stitch took me forever to understand. I kept dropping stitches, loosing track of where I was in the sequence. I must have started over 8 times. I finally figured out how to rip out part of it to the pearl row, which is easier to pick up. I also baste in a contrasting color thread ever inch or so, to track the pattern. So, the stitch that has kept me occupied since January? K1,*knit the next st but do not slip it off the left-hand needle, then purl the same st and the next st tog, kl, rep froom * to end. The result is a stocking stripe next to a stripe of bumps. The back side is this undulating pearl....I am going to try to make it reversable. It is for my older son. IT HAD BETTER FIT!

I know what you mean about putting knitting aside. I did for some time, because of neck problems. Now, I try to not get obsessive with it, putting it down after a couple of rows. My friend, who is an avid knitter and owned a yarn shop at one time, commented once she could not understand the interest in big yarn big needles and fast results....especially with expensive yarn. You get much more entertainment per dollar with complicated stitches, fine yarn and fine needles...it takes SO LONG to complete a project.

When you were knitting, what was your favorite piece that you did?

wow, amazing. I never finished a garment. I knitted a ball in short-rows, some swatches in mosaic stitch, and 1 3/4 slipper socks. And most of the pieces of a lace angel. I have bits and pieces of several sweaters. Oh, I did finish a garter stitch sweater in double-strand chunky yarn, but it fits kind of weirdly and is too bulky to wear. I kept buying small project books, socks, hats, etc. I got enthusiastic about doing a small guage lace doily from a vintage pattern book, but just doing the tiny lace angel cramped my hands up terribly for weeks. I never could put it down after a couple rows, I'd go all day long.

I tried knitting machines, made pieces of garments, and never finished them. I gave one to goodwill, still have an LK150.

I love the book "Knitting without tears" and some of her others.

If only all the time I've spent watching TV had been spent knitting, what lovely things I'd have.

Mouse-woman. You never ceased to exist, you just went on walkabout. I am back after a 2-week actual "vacation" away from home. First 2-weeker I've done from my dreaded job in several years (God, I hate that place). However, being the poster child for OCD that I am, I must admit that I have been feeling "out of sorts" the entire time because I have been out of my "normal" routine. Well, I guess that will all end come Monday. On a side-note to those who have been following along, the wife and I have had about 5 meetings so far with the marriage counselor. I think we are making some progress, albeit slowly. However, there is about 8 years of emotions to work through, so I guess it will take some time. I guess, and I have told my wife and the counselor, that we will have to re-learn how to interact with each other. We still have some areas of friction that cannot be easily resolved, but I feel that soon we will be able to at least openly TALK about them rather than relegating them to the deafening silence we had become "used to". So much to say, so much to feel, so much to heel. I hope I will be given the time to live until there WILL be a day that I can look back and smile, having gone so far, having finished the race......and won. My love to all who know/care about me.

Dear Paxman, congratulations on being with your mate in couseling. I know I will be there when you look back and appreciate the hard work you both have done. My thoughts are with you both and your little one.

Thanks, little Mouse. I was thinking just the other day of the paintings you had done that you linked me to in an email a year or so ago. Such talent, such talent. Have you been able to "easel" back into it any more? If so, I would surely love to see some of your recent work. Give it some thought. My email remains paxvox2000atscdotrrdotcom.

Cheers!
