Hi, I saw a "sample" sweater in Seattle's Weaving Works done in a stitch I had never seen before. Of course, I had to have the pattern for the sweater thinking it was something complicated. So I put my name in and got a Jo Sharp Hand Knitting Collection Book Number One for "Tundra" on page 18. The stitch took me forever to understand. I kept dropping stitches, loosing track of where I was in the sequence. I must have started over 8 times. I finally figured out how to rip out part of it to the pearl row, which is easier to pick up. I also baste in a contrasting color thread ever inch or so, to track the pattern. So, the stitch that has kept me occupied since January? K1,*knit the next st but do not slip it off the left-hand needle, then purl the same st and the next st tog, kl, rep froom * to end. The result is a stocking stripe next to a stripe of bumps. The back side is this undulating pearl....I am going to try to make it reversable. It is for my older son. IT HAD BETTER FIT!

I know what you mean about putting knitting aside. I did for some time, because of neck problems. Now, I try to not get obsessive with it, putting it down after a couple of rows. My friend, who is an avid knitter and owned a yarn shop at one time, commented once she could not understand the interest in big yarn big needles and fast results....especially with expensive yarn. You get much more entertainment per dollar with complicated stitches, fine yarn and fine needles...it takes SO LONG to complete a project.

When you were knitting, what was your favorite piece that you did?

mouse with wool in her lap, and it was 94 degrees yesterday
