I was just wondering how much fish oil you guys are taking. About 8 weeks ago i started experimenting and just randomly doubled my fish oil dose to 4 capsules instead of 2. So I'm getting 4000mgs with breakfast. I've noticed I'm pretty sharp lately. I use to have a big problem with forgetting to take my meds before leaving for work or bed. Sometimes i would realize it, but more often than not i would grab my pill box the next morning and see that i had forgotten meds the previous day.
I've only forgotten meds twice in the 8 weeks which is pretty huge for me. I don't know if i can attribute it all to fish oil b/c I've added an exercise regiment as well, but i have noticed an increase in functioning since adding more omegas to my cocktail.
So where are you guys at? Is 4000mgs a lot???

How much DHA and EPA is in each fish oil capsule? What brand are you taking?
I don't think 4 grams of fish oil is too much, especially if you think you are feeling and functioning better.
Just curious, what meds are you taking and why?

I've been taking a brand called Borleans. I think that's how
you spell it, however today I found a buy one get on free on Natures best so I got two economy bottles of that stuff. Well see how the cheaper stuff works. My diagnosis is bipolar II. I take lamictal, risperdal, topamax and citalopram. I also take a supplement called "calm". It's a magnesium citrate powder and I only take it if i'm feeling extra restless or when my schedule is really screwed up. I happen to be a shift worker so the stuff is a life saver.

I take magnesium every night in the form of magnesium glycinate. I think it helps me sleep better. I've also read that many people are deficient in magnesium and most of us should supplement it on a daily basis.

No, I don't think 4000mgs is a lot for some people, especially if you have bipolar disorder. I only take 1,500mg of fish oil per day, and I can't say I'm sharper, but it does help with my depression.

I actually decided to bring down the dose a little this weekend. I brought my fish oil down to 3000mg and I'm reducing my magnesium intake as well. I'm having a little gut trouble here lately (loose stool). I also started a fiber supplement yesterday. I'm already seeing some improvement in the gut category this morning. Sorry if that was more info than you guys wanted!
Thanks for the responses. I've really enjoyed reading about all this alternative stuff. I've been reading the archives and i'm starting to take this stuff just a serious as my prescription meds. A whole new world of info and cool ways to treat my condition!

Try magnesium glycinate, it's easy on the bowels.
