B Complex.... yucky feelings

Posted by NotAddicted on March 1, 2004, at 16:57:46

I have attempted to use B vit complex in various forms and brands... cheap to pricey. I never have a good experience. I give it several weeks and spend the entire time with the return of night sweats (even with no flush niacin) and a feeling of generalized achiness. Stop them, and the "yuckiness" goes away and I actually feel much better. I don't know why I persist in this quest for "B", other than, it's just what is SOOO recommended and I do feel it's important.

I guess I just want to know if I'm unique in this experience.

I'm not really asking for advice... I have no desire to take EVERY B vit separate, as I'm already getting a little burned out on taking "something" for what feels like 40 times a day.

...... just tell me I'm not alone.. anybody?????

Yep, you are not alone!

I cant put my finger on exactly why exactly I dont feel so good with B complex's, but I certainly feel better when I stop taking them.

If you scan back over the past couple of months, i'm sure there was a thread about this with others commenting similarly.

My opinion for what its worth, is if you feel lousy taking something then its probably your body telling you that it doesnt need them!

You're not alone.

For many years, I noticed that after taking B vitamins for a few days my dysthymia would worsen. Through a process of trial and error, I finally came to the conclusion that it was probably the choline in the B vitamins which was causing my problem. I now take a multi-vitamin with a low amount of choline without problems.

With me it seems that anything which stimulates the cholinergic system such as choline, piracetam, and gingko biloba will exacerbate my dysthymia.

I take a lot of B vitamins, and although I don't feel worse, I can't say that they make me feel any better. I guess I just have expensive urine. The one exception is a small amount of extra B6 when I'm pre-menstrual. That really seems to help relieve my irritability.

Very Good to hear.....

I really thought I was the only one and everyone else was living "B-splendidly". In my circle of shared "influence" in the real world.... anytime any problem is mentioned: fatigue, just not feeling "up to par" and the like, someone always says "You have to up your B Vits", as if they are the cure for all. I kept feeling like I was just weird to not have those terrific findings. Good to know I'm not the only one.
Thank you all.

Mega Food Vitamin B

I have tried numerous lines of vitamin B and the only one I can stomach is Mega Food Vitamin B complex in the whole food form.
Every other type makes me burp and feel yucky....it was an expensive search but I am happy.

It is good to hear like experiences. The B vits are claimed so "essential" and I do think they are good in a general sense. Sorry to say, I know of no resources to help figure out what you can tolerate... there's always the trial and error method... Sometimes, I think we make it very complicated or at least, I did...if they make me feel awful with trial after trial of various formulations and the like... well, that's just my truth. I certainly can no longer believe they are going to make a positive impact for me.

Anyway, I've given up and everytime I consider "thinking about it" again, I remind myself of how awful I have felt... oh, about 4-5 times I tried to use any B vits. I think some of us just do not tolerate them. I also don't believe this is exclusive to just B vits but any other vits and suppliments. One must just find their own way.

Co-enzymes the worst

Hiya-

I actually feel much better taking a specific B complex 50mg plus extra niacinamide and inositol.

However I once got a big bottle of co-enzyme B vits and these sent my anxiety through the roof. They were sublingual ones. AND I was told these are much better than normal ones.

Mind you they told me SJW would make me sleep better, when it completely destroyed ANY sleep I could have got. I was a duracell bunny for months.

Co-enzymes are too activating for me, but the regular ones seem to work.
