> i don't know much about refrigerants, i might need to go to a mechanical website to learn more about it....i just want Freon back, when they transitioned over to r-134a, it does cool but it's not as efficient, R-12 freon was the best for blasting it on with freezing cold air... today generation will never know the wonders of air conditioning in cars before 1993
Freon was one of a number of refrigerants and propellants known as CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) whose use destroyed ozone in the upper atmosphere, causing a hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica. Ozone blocks the most dangerous of the sun's rays. Under an international treaty, countries agreed to phase-out and ban CFCs. Since then, other non-CFC refrigerants have been devised which are just as effective. Propellants have not been replicated, but have been replaced with non-aerosol sprays.
I find air-conditioning is just as cold as ever and is getting better and better without damaging the ozone layer. Still contributing to global warming though.
