That is true, but don't you have to laugh it off sometimes when you hear something ridiculous? That's what most people do.
When you hear about goofy people who wear tin foil hats or talking about UFOs, etc, most people don't say "I respect their opinion, but disagree," they say, "you're a nutcase." It's a natural reaction.
It may be rude, but I think it's a natural human reaction that is psychologically beneficial. I've lost that reaction though.
