How can you grow older without getting heartsick?

The US is very regional, very divided, from what I've seen, as you might expect in a country of its size.

You know that in the whole of Australia there is only one detectable regional accent? (South Australia).
Isn't it said that the US is a country of small towns? This is hard to understand here. Go 50 miles west and the people end, pretty much. They all live on the coast, like me.
