In reply to a question for smokers, posted by octopusprime on September 26, 2004, at 12:17:37

I could never tell you to quit. I hated it when well meaning folk, especially those who had never smoked, would patronize me by saying, it's soooo easy, just don't do it. Yeah right!! My decision to quit was because my husband no longer smoked, my up coming wedding, and at the end of the list I guess, myself. I still miss it everyday. I didn't really want to give up, I just knew I had to. The point I am trying to make though, is that my smoking habits were very definitaly influenced by my mood and depression. I went through so much turmoil and what felt like terrible trauma when I gave up that I did a lot of research for encouragement.

These questions stood out to me. "What is the one very thing that never leaves your side, no matter what mood you're in, whether you are happy or sad? What is there for you, no matter what?" Naturally answer is cigarettes. The outcome to this question was that when quitting you are actually losing a best friend and you have to bury this friend and mourn it. That made things and the my frantic, sometimes chain smoking a little easier to understand. When I felt okay, even happy, I would smoke. And enjoyed it. When I was down, sad, depressed, in a bad mood etc etc. I smoked. And enjoyed it. And NEEDED it.

I identify clearly with what you are saying. I would still be smoking if my H hadn't quit.

Enjoy a ciggie for me octopusprime!

Regards
Sabrina
