I originally rented it because of Virginia Wolfe. It is a movie that you definitely have to pay attention to, it doesn't lead you by the hand. It was definitely one of the better movies I've seen in a while. Some other favorites I've seen recently:
Whale Rider
Second Hand Lions
There are probably more, but I don't remember right now.
