Ayla,
I was a children's librarian for a year or so, and I'm going to apply for a 10 hour /week position at the library again. Libraries are the coolest places on earth. And my head librarian is a 45 year old guy with a ponytail who likes to play his guitar in the library. The old stereotypes no longer apply. Your local library would love it if you could volunteer a couple of hours a week.
On financial aid - You will have to look up the rules, or ask your financial aid office to be sure. If you can prove that your parents haven't supported you for the last 2 (??) years then their income isn't counted for your financial aid application. The money that your dad contributed towards your semester this year would have to be counted. But if they haven't been contributing to your room and board, then you can only put in your income. They may have to sign a form saying that they didn't contribute for those years. If you are confused, let me know and I'll try to dig up the information.
