Julie,

It’s okay to talk about yourself. Look at it this way – what you relate from your own experience may help someone else with a problem. Or someone else being able to help you may just make them feel good. Works both ways.
I’m so glad to hear that serzone seems to be helping you. I am surprised that you would notice an effect so quickly. Has it really helped with the anxiety? Some docs go through a washout period each time a med is changed. I gather that you didn’t which might help to explain the quick effect from serzone. Other people have had good results with serzone in treating anxiety. I hope it works as well for depression. I was on it for about six months one time but it was not the right thing for me. I’m interested that you say prozac worked for a long time. It did for me too. When it started to poop out, my pdoc tried adding various things to jump start it. I mentioned naltrexone – also pindolol. Each worked, but only slightly. The we tried adding remeron. I’ve been on that combo for over a year and so far so good. Each time I think I am going downhill I vary the doses a bit, either amount or timing, and I seem to get back on track. Remeron worked very well for anxiety for me.
Julie – 4 days without a drink is wonderful! I know you won’t feel good for the first while but you should be very proud of what you have done. You may not feel physically better, but you will feel better about yourself. I found that when I drink, I feel better in a numb sort of way at the time. But the effect over time is to feel lousy about myself and my inability to do something about what I know is a problem. I still can’t say that the physical benefits of not drinking have been very great, but I definitely feel happier with me. I no longer cringe when I think others notice I am hungover. I no longer have to make sure to stock up on booze wherever I go. I no longer vary my places of liquor purchase lest they think I have a problem. All those things make me feel a bit more worthwhile. So I can put up with the lack of major physical and mental benefits, if not drinking deprives me only of that very short numbness and rewards me with a feeling of pride the next day, rather than disgust.

Greg
