I'm not sure I agree.
Short of a heaven where nothing ever happens and its lovely all the time, there will always be grief.
Isn't grief really our response to the passage of time?
Anna Akhmatova ended up thinking that time was worse than Stalin.
Anyway, I think grief is one of those lovely emotions that redeems our species, although I don't suggest it's exclusive to us.
But you are right about its being painful.
