Lamar and I are gonna raise hell in Doggie Heaven

Today (Friday) at 2:30 CST (U.S.) time, Lamar went to sleep for the last time. We went to the vet, carried him in wrapped in a special blankie, and the vet and staff were quite kind. His passing was very serene. I think going to the vet, putting him in the car, carrying him into the room, just about took everything he had.

I would say, it took about 10 seconds after the vet started the injection for him to drowse away, and he was gone by the time the injection was done. It was extremely peaceful, serene, with me and my S.O. talking to him and petting him the whole time.

When he was gone, I said "Good, now we can break down." And, we did. It is important not to be weeping and upset when with your pet, because it upsets THEM. So, we just petted him and I told him what a good boy he was, and he was my most handsome guy.

We stayed a few more minutes, giving him kisses good-bye and final pets and pats.

There is a void, and when we got home I told the other dogs Lamar wouldn't be coming back, and picked up his food bowl. The pack order has changed now. In the next few days we will clear out a few other things.

But not today. I had a sweet condolence call from dearest Phil (thank you), and we are lighting candles at home. We also talked about what he meant to us and how he enriched our lives.

The silver lining is that he is now in Doggie Heaven with Scruffles, who will comfort him, and get him used to the place until I arrive. They can play and romp until I arrive, and then we'll all romp together.

It was time, it was the right thing to do, and I figure, when we're all in Doggie Heaven...it'll be a totally different place! I'm planning on raising a LOT of hell, playing fetch, teasing them by PRETENDING to throw the ball, causing all sorts of ruckus and barking, etc.

Lamar, farewell, and I know you're not in pain now, and I'll see you (hopefully) soon.

Thanks, again, Zen for your kindness, and I'm very glad you got to meet him also.

xoxo
Shar
