Hi. For me grief is overwhelming at first then it begins this wave thing. I am okay and can think about something else then I feel like a wave of sadness will come over me and take all my attention. Then it may go for a little while.
When my dad died. I was filled with mixed emotions....joy, sadness, grief and confusion. As the time went on it lessened but changed as well. His birthday would trigger my missing him, the date he died would trigger....and so on.
Loss is an ongoing process.
As weird as this sounds.......I just couldn't understand why he had to be gone for so long...you know forever??? My mind had a hard time wrapping around that concept.

So please be kind to yourself. It's a hardtime right now. Do sweet things for yourself. Take breaks from the grief if you can....do something little to distract you...a cross word puzzle or patty cake with a friend...you'd be amazed how much fun that is....I do it all the time. Especially if I just can't seen to shake myself out of some feeling or thought.
I hope this helps.
