Well....

I don't have bipolar disorder, but I have passed some of my characteristics on to my son. And I do feel guilty about it. But then I look at him and realize how much I love him, and how I wouldn't change a hair on his head, and how some of my vulnerabilities are also strengths (at least in him).

Can you approach her that way? Start off with all the wonderful qualities you got from her. And then edge into talking about how those wonderful qualities also have downsides? Empathize from a position of similar experiences?

It just may be that you can't talk about it with her at all. The people we love have limitations, and in my experience sometimes it's best just to accept those limitations and love what we can about them and accept what they're able to give. Because wanting more is like banging your head against a wall over and over.

But that's just my opinion, for what it's worth.
