I'm a scientist. I have a background in chemistry and biochemistry. In some limited fields, I probably know more than the typical doctor. I specialized in environmental toxicology. I read a lot of medical literature, which at least gives me familiarity with the arcane language of medicine, and the way the science is progressing.
