Cyanide in almonds? Toxic pits?Interesting to know, that the Native Americans who used to live in what is now California ate a lot of acorns as a dietary staple- toxic. If I remember correctly from gradeschool, they developed a process of mashing them up and washing them extensively to remove the toxin. There must be some more specific info somewhere on the internet- wikipedia maybe?-about this. The only part I don't get is didn't they then wash away lots of nutrients, too?
So Declan, perhaps there is a safer way for you to eat apple seeds, peach pits, and other irresistable strange plant parts :)
