Hi Marty,
I like a lot of your ideas. A little exuberance never hurt anyone, so don't apologize for having big concepts!
Starting with a small change that you propose- I think that having user profiles would be a real bonus to this site. It would increase a sense of community, by helping people find others who have things in common with them.
Unless I'm mistaken, Dr. Bob was considering implementing this change at some point, perhaps this summer, or when he gets a chance to.
