I see no inherent contradiction in a deputy's giving a PBC in a thread and posting substantively in the same thread.
A deputy has two roles, one as deputy and one as poster. GG, or any deputy, may have valuable contributions to a thread in which someone was uncivil. What is the contradiction?
If someone feels that a deputy was issuing the PBC because the person contradicted or disagreed with her-- but was entirely civil, and the deputy was using the PBC somehow vindictively, or to further her own agenda, that could easily, and civilly, be pointed out.
It might be a valid issue, and should be given thoght.
But why throw out the baby with the bathwater nad block deputies from full participation in babble-- I personally would like to see much more of it than currently occurs.
The case of giving oneself a PBC is in no way comparable. I really can't see the parallel, because while gg (or any deputy) is acting in different "roles" as poster and deputy. it's a very different matter to turn reflexively and act as a deputy to oneself. Judges do not sit as judges in their own trials; a lawyer who respresents himself has a fool for a client, etc-- it simply is not to be expected for someone to act as a deputy re: their own contributions, and entirely appropriate for another deputy to take on that role.I value the deputies here, as deputies, but more importantly as posters-- and if there's anything we can do to encourage them to feel safe in posting, I'd like us to do it.
