I don't know whether or not it would be a good idea to inform the poster. I think it depends on the situation and the poster.
If I were harassing another poster and Dr. Bob called the police on me and told me about it I might do desperate things. But then again even if I didn't know until the police called I still might do desperate things. Desperate things could mean different things to different people, for me it would probably mean hurting myself.
If I were threatening to kill myself and Dr. Bob called the police on me and told me about it. I would probably hurt myself before the police came.
