In nearly every aspect of my life, resistance generally is futile.

Just think what happens automatically when you encounter resistance. Isn't the automatic reaction to stiffen and push back? Even with simple physical, non emotionally charged, resistance.

Resistance may indeed be futile with Dr. Bob, but reasoning and respect for his point of view can bring about change if he can be brought to see the value of your point of view. Otherwise he will (naturally enough) do what he thinks best. And a fair bit of patience and persistance.

But isn't that true of most people?
