Intent versus what is REALLY written

Posted by Glydin on October 26, 2004, at 14:13:06

I would like a clarification on the questioning of a post's intent. In the past, I remember poster's being told that intent was not the main issue but more a "what did you actually say" in the post. I believe true intent can only be known by the poster themselves.

I believe some of the requests for determinations are just some fancy wordsmithing to cover some incivility in the "jumping to conclusions and judgements" category. It feels to me as if this is "finding a way to beat the system" if someone is stating their judgements but is prefixing them in such a way that civility rules are skirted. I do find that clever but it feels to me one could give just about any judgement, however uncivil, on any post, as long as one writes: "I wish for a determination... because I feel..."
