Janelle, to do tracer-routes & pint times, go to your start menu & select Programs. Then when the sub-menu under Programs opens, select Accesories. When that sub-menu opens, select Command Prompt. Clicking on Command Prompt will open a small window. Where you see the cursor flashing, type in "tracert www.dr-bob.org" (but without the quotation marks & DON'T use http:// - it'll cause problems if you do).
For ping time, same thing except you type in "ping www.dr-bob.org" (no quotation marks of course either). To copy it, select around the whole thing (it's selects kind of funny) & then just a right click alone will copy it to paste somewhere else.
We use Windows 2000. Your OS may not have that. I can't remember if Windows 98 or Windows ME has it. Windows XP Professional will have it - I'm not sure if Windows XP Home would.
Out of curiousity, why would you need to know? Even I didn't know how to find it originally, but because Dr. Bob asked if anyone could help out, I asked my son. He's a programmer but knows all-round computer stuff. To say he's a genius is really an understatement. I've gathered lots of computer knowledge from reading & that semester of computer courses I took. But there's SO VERY MUCH that I can't keep up (it's constantly changing & being added on to). Anything extra, I go to my own computer oracle, my son. Mind you, I can weave circles around him on any biology subject. We keep each other up to date on many different science & math subjects.
