Yes, it's an old article, but as pointed out, you must be able to treat psychological AND somatic anxiety, which SSRI's don't, and why so many people fail on them (IMHO). And, like alcohol, dis-inhibition is certainly not always a good thing. You can "love the world", but also be the most belligerent person going, like Scott said. That is my takeaway from the article.

Plus, most PCP's and even pdocs use SSRI's as first, frontline treatment. I know this from working in the mental health field for 25 years. And, even after a patient 'fails' on these meds, pdocs are quite persistent. Why are MAOI's not rushed in, and TCA's? Both of those meds have a far better track record for certain types of depression. Why are benzo's looked upon as just 'drugs of abuse', when used in combination with any of the above a.d.'s, can treat both depression and anxiety fairly well.

Anyways, I have extrapolated and projected quite a bit, but those are points I have taken from the article.
