That was a strategy used many years ago. I think 3 months was the amount of time chosen to remain drug-free. (One of my doctors found it necessary to alternate between Parnate and Nardil with one of his patients).
If you try this, you might consider adding lithium, Lamictal, or Abilify to the MAOI in order to help stabilize or extend an antidepressant response. Perhaps others will offer more suggestions for what to use as an adjunct.
