In reply to Strattera for schizoaffective disorder?, posted by vbs on August 3, 2014, at 14:48:54
A medication such as strattera would likely worsen any psychotic disorder. In psychotic disorders like schizoaffective, neurotransmitters like dopamine and neurophinephrine (NE) are normally too high.
I'd forget about it and focus on FDA approved medications for schizoaffective, or just do the common sense thing and add an SSRI if you are having concentration problems.
Unfortunately, medications for these severe forms of mental illness like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, manic depression and psychotic depression leave a lot to be desired in terms of effectiveness and side effect profiles.

> Does anyone know if Strattera is safe and effective for this condition? I have concentration issues, and I used to take it. My insurance covers it. Pdoc probably won't prescribe it as it may worsen my psychotic disorder. Also, I'm on a lot of meds and really want to keep my med regimen simple. Simplify, simplify!
