In reply to hypothyroid; what's the story?, posted by johnLA on January 15, 2013, at 0:30:13
Even though my thyroid levels were normal, my doctor allowed me to try thyroid medication, and also low-dose cortisone for adrenal fatigue. I had many of the symptoms of both ailments. These treatments turned out to be a blind alley for me. The thyroid medication made my heart race wildly, even at a very low dose.
But since your test indicated hypothyroidism, you might benefit tremendously from medication. Mary Shomon runs a website devoted to hypothyroidism -- http://thyroid.about.com/
And she's written a book, Living Well with Hypothyroidism, that anyone with hypothyroidism should read. You'll probably be prescribed Synthroid (T4). Not everyone responds well to this. Some people need to take T3 as well. Shomon writes a lot about this. Good luck.
