> i've been on 12 mg emsam for months, and while it's worked as an antidepressant, it hasn't touched my derealization, which i've been told is anxiety based. However, I ran out of the 12 mg patches last week and was using the 9mg and had a few days of complete clarity but now the derealization is back in full horrible force. Does this make sense? when i was on the 9mg ramping up to the 12 mg the derealization was there so I doubt reducing it to 9m had anything to do with it. Has anyone had this experience? Should I try reducing to 9mg? if i do will the depression return? The derealization is destroying my life; it's torture.
Derealization is sometimes associated with a combination of anhedonia and anxiety. You might be able to reduce the derealization by taking an anxiolytic of some sort. Klonopin or Xanax XR are the two benzodiazepines that come to mind. Maybe even Ativan. You might even consider Seroquel, a drug with anxiolytic and antidepressant properties. I bet Zyprexa would work well, but the weight gain and risk of diabetes make it less than an ideal choice. I wouldn't exclude it from consideration, though.
I'll be curious to see what others have to say.
