In reply to Boredom what is it?, posted by Phillipa on June 4, 2010, at 12:33:01
Once I'm bored, it means that I'm no longer depressed but need a purpose in life.
That tells me I need a focus or a job in order to feel fulfilled.
When I'm in the middle of a depression, that is a completely different situation as you can't even formulate a thought that you are bored.
Boredom is a sign that I might be ready to attempt to go back to work or do do something for others, like volunteering or rescuing animals, one of my passions, when I'm not working and not too depressed to be catatonic.
Phillipa, do you have a cause that you could volunteer for? That would give you a focus outside of yourself which is always helpful with any condition that is internalized, such as depression or anxiety. Outward focus is really what I find helps with an abnormal focus on our internalizations. That I believe is at the route of both depression and anxiety.
I find hard physical or mental work, even if part-time, is very helpful with depression and anxiety.
