It sounds rather like a serum sickness-like reaction (Hypersensitivity Type III).

Not really, no. It's not a drug that we use here. I think it might be better to stick to the H2 antagonists. Ranitidine 300mg twice a day can sometimes be used instead of PPIs but even at this (high) dose it is less reliable.
