Sounds like a plan. That's probably what I would do. You can add Wellbutrin if your response to Effexor is inadequate.

I wish things were that simple. I guess if you are looking at combining SRI with NRI, Effexor and Cymbalta are logical alternatives.
Personally, I did better on Effexor + nortriptyline than on Effexor alone. Unfortunately, my doctor at the time did not opt to go higher than 75mg of nortriptyline. Had I gone up to 150mg, which is where I am now, I think I would have had a better chance at achieving remission.
I wish you luck. It is encouraging to hear that you did respond to Effexor in the past.
